SOUTH PORTLAND — Maurice A. Eaton, 80, of South Portland, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at his home with his loving family by his side.

Maurice was born in Portland on May 30, 1935, the son of the late Maurice F. and Gertrude D. (Flaherty) Eaton. He graduated from South Portland High School in the Class of 1953 and then enlisted and served in the United States Navy.

In January of 1957, he married Carole Ann Barbour and together they made their home and raised a family in South Portland.

Maurice has always been a hard worker, going to work for Maine Central Railroad at Rigby Yard at the age of 16 and working there for the next 18 years. He worked two years with Chase Transfer as a rigger/driver, a job that allowed him to travel all over the country. He ended his working career with the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. Maurice always had a strong work ethic, which he instilled in his children.

Although he worked long days, Maurice always made time for his family. His greatest love was the time he spent surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
