Martha E. Hilton

Martha E. “Betty” Hilton, 90, of Bridgton, died at Bridgton Hospital on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011. She was born Nov. 3, 1921 in Sweden, a daughter of Leslie Truman Chandler and Florence Adelaide Littlefield.

She attended school in Sweden through the eighth grade and obtained her GED at adult education in Fryeburg in 1968. She was a homemaker but also worked at various camps doing laundry, picked apples at local orchards, and worked at the Bridgton Shoe Shop. She loved her family and enjoyed family reunions, cooking, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, knitting and quilting.

She is survived by her children, Robert Harmon, Randall Harmon, Philip Harmon, Sandra Hewson, Stanley Harmon, James Harmon, Paul Harmon, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first husband, William E. Harmon, children Kenneth Harmon and Katherine Morrill, her second husband, Leonard Elmer Hilton, and all of her siblings except Beulah C. Holden of Harrison.

There will be a private interment service on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Bridgton, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Masonic Temple, 166 Harrison Rd., Bridgton, from 1 to 4 p.m.
