Linda M. Smith

NAPLES — Linda M. Smith, 66, of Naples died Saturday, April 9, 2011, following a brief illness.

She was born, Sept. 14, 1944, to William and Joan D’Etcheverry Miettinen of Templeton, Mass.  She attended Templeton schools and graduated from Narragansett High School.  On Feb. 19, 1966, she was united in marriage to David T. Smith in Templeton.

In 1973, she and David moved their young family to Jaffrey, N.H. Linda graduated magna cum laude from Franklin Pierce University.

The family moved to Portland in 1985.  After the children were grown, David and Linda moved back to Massachusetts, living in Greenfield, Springfield and Southbridge until their retirement in 2008, when they moved to Naples.

Linda was an avid reader, and enjoyed quilting, bird watching and kayaking.

Linda is survived by her husband, David; their children Mercedes Biretto of Denver, Colo., Andrew Smith of Raleigh, N.C., Hilary Irving of Windham, and Livy Yueh of Seattle, Wash.; her seven grandchildren; her sister, Martha DuGuay-Carpenter of Southbridge, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her sisters Elinor Putnam and Nancy Pokki, and her brother Laurie Miettinen.

A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
