Katherine S. Grover, 71

Katherine S. Grover

Katherine Stuart Grover, 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at the Bridgton Health Care Center, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born Feb. 9, 1941 in Morristown, N.J. to Charles W. and Katherine P. Stuart Sr.

Kathy grew up in Van Nuys, Calif., and spent summers in Maine with her Aunt Dot, where she met her husband, William W. Grover Sr. of Lovell. After the birth of their first son, the family moved to High Street, South Paris, where they had three more children.

Kathy worked at the B.E. Cole Shoe Shop, at the food counter at J.J. Newberry’s, while completely devoted to raising her family. Kathy spent nearly 30 years as a member of the South Paris Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary “Lady Firecrackers.” As the assistant fire chief’s wife, Kathy spent numerous hours babysitting the “Red” phone.

She loved to attend her children’s school and sporting events and was always available to chaperone any trip with a bag full of bubble gum. She enjoyed painting ceramics and baking and decorating cakes. Later in life, she went to college and earned a degree in business administration. She will be remembered as an avid New England sports fan, music lover and mom to everyone.

Kathy is survived by her son, William W. Grover Jr. of Norway and Charles E. Grover of Oxford; daughters, Christine Cushman of Oxford and Katherine “Bump” Hallee of Harrison; 12 beloved grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, with much love for them all.

She was predeceased by her father, Charles; mother, Katherine; and brother, Chuck, a Navy veteran, who served two tours in Vietnam, who lost his life saving three shipmates aboard the U.S.S. Princeton.
