Joyce W. Brooks, 80

Joyce Brooks

BROWNFIELD — Joyce W. Brooks, 80, of Brownfield passed away peacefully at the home of her son and daughter-in-law on Sunday, June 11, 2017.

Joyce was born April 4, 1937 at the home of her parents, Arnold Walker and Olive (Dennett) Walker. Joyce was a lifelong resident of Brownfield and proudly graduated from Fryeburg Academy as a member of the Class of 1955.
Joyce married her high school sweetheart, James H. “Jimmy” Brooks, in 1955. She spent many years working locally in retail and manufacturing before opening the Four Corner Store in Hiram, which she and her husband operated together for 19 years, gaining countless acquaintances and dear friends in the area during that time.

Joyce was a charter member of Brownfield Historical Society, as well as a proud member of the Eastern Star. Joyce always enjoyed reading, watching historical movies, camping and traveling. While she traveled extensively, she especially loved reminiscing about the cross-country trip she and her husband took to Alaska early in their retirement. With that said, what she loved most all was spending time with close friends and her beloved family.

She leaves behind her eldest son, Dale Brooks of Brownfield; a granddaughter and her twins of Brownfield; a grandson, Damon, and his son of Center Conway, N.H.; and a sister, Carolyn (Walker) Jackson of Brownfield.

Joyce was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Jimmy; and a son, Gregory.

A graveside service was held Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Brownfield.

Gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in her memory to the Brownfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 264, Brownfield, ME 04010 and/or the Fryeburg Rescue, P.O. Box 177, Fryeburg, ME 04037.

Arrangements are in the care of the Wood Funeral Home, 9 Warren Street, Fryeburg. Words of condolence and tribute may be shared with her family at www.woodfuneralhome.org
