John G. Trinward, 59

John G. Trinward

WATERVILLE —John Greenleaft Trinward, 59, died Nov. 20, 2012 at Maine General Hospital in Waterville.

John was born Feb. 22, 1953, in Rumford, to Margaret G. and John W. Trinward.

He lived in Bethel and graduated from Telstar High School as the valedictorian of his class in 1971. John graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics in 1975 and received his MBA in 1977. John was an environmental engineer and owned and operated his own company, Castine Energy Services. He worked in power
plants and paper mills throughout the New England region, improving air and water quality, while helping companies improve their energy conservation and plant processing.

On Jan. 2, 1977, John married the love of his life and his best friend, Pamela Jabar. They had been married for 35 loving years. They had four children and raised them in large part in Waterville. They spent many happy days coaching and cheering their children at soccer games, basketball games and school performances. John was a favorite coach to many kids in the
Waterville area, as well as the host of many hours of tutoring sessions at his kitchen table, teaching physics and any challenging science or math course. He was known for teaching his athletes and students about the rules of the sport and the game of life.

A wonderful man, a friend to everyone he met and a person of eternal optimism, with the expression, “It’s a beautiful thing!” always at the tip of his tongue. John was an avid skier and spent his childhood skiing at Sunday River. He taught his four children to ski at Sugarloaf and in his most recent years really found his home and special place at the mountain with Pam.
He loved late-night chats with his friends and family full of craft beer, board games, puzzles and funny stories around his Chiminea or kitchen table.

John loved the Red Sox and the sport of baseball; he lived for the seventh inning stretch to stand and sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame and his extraordinary presence made it impossible not to sing along.

Surviving are his wife, Pam; his father, Jack of Waterford; his brother, Kevin of Gray; his children, JT Trinward of South Portland; Kate Udo of Washington, D.C., Misty Fitzgerald of Salem, Mass. and Andrea Kwaczala of Bridgeport, Conn.; and two great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held on Friday Nov. 23, 2012 at Gallant Funeral Home, Inc., 10 Elm Street, Waterville. A funeral service was held at St. Joseph’s Maronite Church in Waterville, on Saturday, Nov. 24.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory can be made to the Waterville Alfond Youth Center (Boys and Girls Club).
