WINDHAM — Janet I. Carson, 80, of Windham, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at a Portland facility.

She was born in Jefferson, on Jan. 24, 1935, the daughter of Florida Burgess and Vernon Irwin Brown and went to school in Gray.

She liked crafts, knitting, fixing up her home, writing poetry, bowling, cards and most of all, working in her garden. She also liked helping people, and going for coffee with her sisters.

Janet is survived by her children, Doreen Berry-Laskey of Rockwood, Gayle “JB” Carson of Portland, Kristina “Tina” Skillings of Lewiston, Douglas Carson of Lewiston and Tara Oldham of Sebago; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Malcolm “Mike” Brown of Gray and Kennison “Chummy” Brown of Windham; sisters, Patricia Emerson of Windham, Muriel Sayward of Gray and Nancy Masters of Windham.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arnold H. Carson in 1995; brothers, Irwin, Richard, Herbert “Herbie,” Robert “Bobby,” and Charles Brown; sisters, Charlotte Strout, Florence Stanley and Barbara Capen; and her companion of 10 years, William Files in 2015.

A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road. Burial will be private in Forest City Cemetery, South Portland, at a later date. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com
