NORTH FRYEBURG — James “Jim” Hubert Record, 82, died of congestive heart failure at the Bridgton Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013. Jim was born at one of the family homes in North Fryeburg on July 7, 1931, and remained a lifelong resident. He was the oldest son of four children born to Maynard and Helen (Quincy) Record.

Jim was a graduate of Fryeburg Academy, Class of 1948, and attended nearly every one of the class reunions over the past 65 years. In 1952, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. His assignments took him to N.Y., Tex., Ill., and Ga., where he applied his training as an instrument specialist on B-52 bombers until his honorable discharge in 1956.

Upon completion of his military service, he enrolled at Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in Boston, Mass. He returned to North Fryeburg and worked at Record's Market, the family store, with his father. After the sale of the family store in the mid 1970s, he went to work for his brother-in-law, Jim Hill, and sister Marlene (Fernie) Hill at Hill Family Woodworking, where they manufactured quality wood products for Yield House in North Conway, N.H. He also worked for Bear Paw Lumber Corporation as their Traffic Manager, responsible for shipment of hardwood lumber to many and various markets, from 1992 until his retirement in 2005.

From an early age, Jim was noted for being an extraordinary dancer. Many a young lady was honored to dance with Jim; the last, Betty Walker, celebrating her 100th birthday, stated that she would dance only if she could dance with Jim Record. Jim's specialty was the polka.

Surviving members include his brother Bob Record and his wife Margaret; his brother Russell Record and his wife Margie; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, most of whom knew him as "Uncle Jimmy." Jim was predeceased by his parents, his sister Marlene, a niece Debra Hill Botting, nephew Ted Reed, and great-nephew Tyler Reed.

Jim's family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Fryeburg Community Chapel, 1225 West Fryeburg Road, Fryeburg, ME 04037; Fryeburg Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 177, Fryeburg, ME 04037; or to Harvest Hills Animal Shelter, 1389 Bridgton Road, Rt. 302, Fryeburg, ME 04037.
