CORNISH — James A. Stewart, 73, died on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, of complications from a fall two weeks earlier.

Jimmy was born in Portland on Oct. 30, 1941, the son of the late A. Lyall and Henrietta (Dares) Stewart. He moved to Hiram at age 12, attended local schools and graduated from Fryeburg Academy.

Jimmy owned and operated Stewart Motors in Cornish since 1966. If you didn’t buy a car from him, or had one repaired, you may have seen him delivering your mail, having worked for the post office for many years. He was well known for his quick wit and sense of humor.

He was predeceased by his son, James A. Stewart Jr.; and two brothers, Lyall Stewart and Harry Stewart.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Felch Stewart; daughters Marcia Stewart of Naples and Carol Stewart Halfin of Philadelphia, Pa.; a granddaughter; a brother, A. Marshall (Sandy) Stewart of St. Augustine, Fla.; sisters, Jane Lindahl of Yarmouth and Nancy Perkins of Cornish; and several nieces and nephews.

At Jimmy’s request, there will be no funeral. There will be a gathering of friends at the Stewart house on Maple Street on Friday Aug. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. to share stories and memories. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wnyfuneralhome.com
