Eugene F. Nelson, 92

 

WINDHAM — Eugene F. Nelson, 92, of Windham, passed away at his beloved farm on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015.

He was born in Bath, the son of Lester and Bessie Varney Nelson and attended Windham schools.

After completing his education, Eugene’s first job was working at the Wing Farm in Bath, delivering milk and then he worked hauling lumber and logs for Chick Atherton in Windham. Later, he worked in Westbrook at John Fitzgerald’s sawmill, where he cut logs. During the winter months, Eugene worked for the Windham Public Works Department and in the summer months on the cemetery crew.

Eugene had worked on his family’s farm for most of his life raising veal and beef cattle. He truly enjoyed the process of baling hay.

Eugene was predeceased by a son, Paul W. Nelson in 2008.

He is survived by his wife, Esther E. Varney Nelson of Standish; sons, Kenneth E. Nelson of Raymond and Robert S. Nelson of Standish; daughter, Cindy L. Cash of Lisbon; one grandson, three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
