Ernest E. Allen Sr., 86

RAYMOND — Ernest E. Allen Sr., 86, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, after a short illness.

Ernie was born in North Yarmouth to Ernest Hayes and Ellen Cushman Allen and attended North Yarmouth schools. He graduated from North Yarmouth Academy where he met his wife, Florence Plummer. After serving in the Pacific with the U.S. Army, Ernie returned home and attended Maine Vocational Technical Institute in South Portland.

Ernie worked for over 30 years for Dielectric Communications in Raymond. He and Florence also operated Plummerville Cottages in Raymond, a business started by Florence’s parents. He stayed involved right up until his death and was especially proud of creating a place where guests returned for generations.

Ernie served the Town of Raymond in numerous capacities throughout his life. He was a Selectman, Town Moderator, Deputy Fire Chief, School Board Member, a charter member of Raymond Rescue, and served on the Budget Committee and Planning Board as well as a variety of temporary committees. He was active for over sixty years in numerous Masonic bodies, holding offices in most of them. In Ernie’s free time, his passion was flying and he co-owned several airplanes throughout his life with his friends Paul and Reg.

Ernie was predeceased by Florence in 2001. He was also predeceased by sisters Frances Kingsford and Eva Tuttle; and brother Gordon Allen. He is survived by three children: Ernest Jr. (Donna) of Rockport, Mass.; David (Kim) of Raymond; and Sarah of Raymond. He and Florence had four grandchildren: Calista, Caroline; Luis and Nathaniel. He is also survived by sisters Marian MacPherson, Della (Warren) Chase, and Myrtie D’Ascanio; a brother Kenneth Allen; a sister-in-law Davetta (Bill) Greene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a time of visitation from 1 to 2:30 p.m., followed by a 2:30 p.m. funeral service at the Raymond Village Church on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016.
