BELFAST — Elizabeth Christine (Horn) Abbott, 86, died Friday, March 23, 2012 at Tallpines in Belfast.

She was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Aug. 3, 1925 to Julius Henry and Christine Bessie (Howe) Horn. The family moved to Stratford, Conn. in 1926. She graduated from Stratford High in 1943 and earned a degree in education from the University of Connecticut. After teaching in Stratford, she continued at Bedford Junior High in Westport, Conn. During this time, she earned her master’s degree at Bridgeport University and a fellowship at Yale University.

In 1956, she married William Abbott of Verona, settling in Belfast.

She was a member of the First Church in Belfast, UCC, serving on numerous committees, the Northport Golf Club, on the board of the Rainbow Girls, the Waldo Hospital Aid, Sweetser Board, American Red Cross, a volunteer at the Penobscot Marine Museum and a longtime member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

She is survived by her husband William of Belfast; a daughter, Beth Place of Naples; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2012 at The First Church in Belfast, UCC, 104 Church Street, Belfast, with Rev. Dr. Kate Winters and Rev. Joel Krueger officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 31 West Main Street, Searsport.
