NORWAY — Elizabeth Althea Millett Maxfield, 100, of Norway, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Waterford on May 18, 1913, the daughter of Arthur Rice and Grace Sawin Millett.

She attended grade school on Plummer Hill in Waterford, and graduated from Bridgton Academy in the class of 1930, where she loved playing basketball. She studied beauty culture in Norway after graduation. She worked for short periods of time at J.J. Newberry’s, Camp Ha-Wa-Ya, Camp Pinecliffe and Carl Day’s Blanket business. Most of all she was a dedicated homemaker.

She married Harold N. Maxfield of Harrison. They were blessed with 63 years together. They lived in Harrison for over 50 years until their move to Waterford in 1985.

She was a former member of the Woodland Rebekah Lodge in Harrison. She was a member of the Ronald G. St. John V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 9328, and a member of the Norway Baptist Church.

She dearly loved all family members as well as many friends. Everyone loved her. She was truly a mother to everyone. Always ready to feed you and/or give you something. She enjoyed family gatherings, knitting, crocheting, sewing, working outside, doing crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and cooking.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1995; a grandson Kenneth in 1986; brothers Howard and Dwight Millett; and sister, Sylvia Libby Smith.

She is survived by her four children; Durward (Evelyn) of Harrison, John (Judy) of Conway, N.H., Joan Wright (George) of Harrison, and Nicholas (Beverly) of Florida; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Delmore Maxfield of Waterford; a brother A. Robert Millett of Stoneham; seven grandchildren, Vern Maxfield (Brenda), Jeffrey Maxfield (Stephanie), Joy Belanger (David), Amanda Henderson (Jon), Jason Ross (Allison), Melanie Putnam (Jason), and Elaine Maxfield (Peter); two step-grandchildren, Mary Halterman and Maxwell Wright; 11 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Edes Falls Cemetery on the Edes Falls Road in Naples. After the service, light refreshments, fellowship and remembrance will take place at the Ronald G. St. John V.F.W. Hall on Route 35 in Harrison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald G. St. John V.F.W.
