Dorothy M. Heyworth, 83

SOUTH PORTLAND — Dorothy M. Heyworth, 83, of South Portland, passed away on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at her residence.

Dot was born in Chicopee, Mass., the daughter of William F. and Lillian May Gordon Lorrey. She was educated in the Massachusetts school system, but earned her diploma from Portland High School in 1970.

She was a member of the Thornton Heights United Methodist Church in South Portland, where she was very active teaching Sunday school along with many other church activities. During her younger years, she participated in the local theater. On a dare with some of her girlfriends, Dot entered in the Miss Lowell Beauty Pageant and was named first runner-up.

For many years, she worked for J.J. Newbury and Jordan Marsh, which later became Macy’s up until her retirement.

Upon her retirement, Dot’s favorite pastimes had been spending time with her husband and family members boating on Sebago Lake. When not boating, she loved to sit and do puzzles.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Heyworth; a brother, Donald E. Gordon, and sister, Ruth Perron, both of Massachusetts.

Surviving are her children, Brian J. Heyworth of Casco and Wendy Heyworth of South Portland; a brother, James Gordon of New Mexico; a sister, Beverly Carlson of Rochester, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at Brooklawn Memorial Park.
