RAYMOND — Dale Southard, 57, died peacefully at his home in Raymond, on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Portland, on April 2, 1958. He grew up in Windham, and graduated from Windham High School in 1976, where he played baseball, basketball, and soccer.

The next year, he and his high school sweetheart, Patricia Doucette, were married. They raised their daughters, Rae and Teri, at their lakeside cabin in the woods of Raymond. The family spent the summers swimming and waterskiing and the winters ice fishing and snowmobiling. Dale also enjoyed coaching several girls’ softball teams over the years.

Dale worked for his parents’ business for many years before fulfilling his dream of opening his own business, Tailfeathers. Dale had a passion for the outdoors. When he wasn’t hunting or fishing in Rangeley or Spring Lake, he was training dozens of bird dogs (and their owners!), He was active in local sporting and bird hunting clubs and was a hunter safety instructor.

Dale is survived by his wife and best friend, Patricia; daughters, Rae Nguyen and Teri Walker; two grandchildren; his parents, Richard Sr. and Anna Southard; his brothers Gene, Dwight, Kevin and Daniel.

A celebration of life will be held at The Windham/Gorham Rod and Gun Club, 8 Tow Path Road, Gorham, on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 1 to 5 p.m. Arrangements are by the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. For online condolences, please visit www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Dale’s favorite dog clubs, which include The Central Maine Brittany Club or the Yankee Chapter of NAVHDA. Donations may also be made to the charity organization, Colon Cancer Alliance.
