TOPSHAM — Cindy Jane Oconnor (Gray), 57, passed away of medical complications at Parkview Hospital in Brunswick on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014.

Cindy was born on April 19, 1957, in Bath, to Edward H. Gray and Beverly J. Gray. She graduated from Morse High School in Bath and graduated from the University of Maine in Augusta with an associate’s degree in Behavioral Health.

Cindy loved to work with developmentally disabled men and woman. She helped open one of the first women’s group home in Richmond in the late 1980s. She worked in this field for over a decade.

Throughout her life, Cindy enjoyed being a cheerleading coach. She enjoyed going to basketball games watching Christa play. She enjoyed going for rides to the beach. She especially enjoyed being at Popham Beach spending time with her grandchildren and being with her family.

Cindy had many obstacles in her life. The one thing that she enjoyed the most in life was her family and the time she spent with them.

Cindy was predeceased by her mother and father.

Cindy is survived by her two daughters, Christa Gallagher of Brunswick and Missy Leeman of South Casco; two sisters, Vicki Harrington of Fitchburg, Mass. and Sharon-Holly Thibodeau of Woolwich; four grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; and her companion Dan Valliancourt.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at Morningside Cemetery, Parker Head Road, Phippsburg. To express your thoughts and condolences with the family please visit www.desmondfuneralhomes.com
