SCARBOROUGH — Carl Terrence Hews, 82, of Scarborough passed away early Tuesday morning after a short battle with lung cancer.

Carl was a graduate of Ashland High School and Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. He was employed for 37 years in Station Repairs at Central Maine Power Company.

In his leisure time, he was a past grand master of Masonic Lodge #115 in Buxton, past high priest of York Royal Arch Chapter #5, a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop #39 in Scarborough, and coach in the Scarborough Little League.

In retirement, he drove seniors for iTN Portland. He enjoyed square dancing with the Round Squares and the Mix N Mingle Squares.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a fan of all the Boston sports teams. He would be happy to tell you which of the Red Sox “wasn’t hitting his weight.”

He is survived by his wife and square dance partner of 60 years, Dorothy J. (Rice) Hews; two sons, David C. Hews of Belchertown, Mass. and Danny R. Hews of Hollis; two daughters, Brenda J. Hews of Huntersville, N.C. and Bonnie H. Wiley of Raymond; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
