BROWNFIELD — Burton Harrison Brooks, of Brownfield, passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2014, with his loving family by his side.

A graduate of Fryeburg Academy, class of 1953, Burton married his high school sweetheart, Carol Brown Brooks.

Burton began his career as a master mechanic at Lacasse Chevrolet in Fryeburg, then Walker's Chevrolet in Brownfield. He later became Service Manager for Churchill Motors in Kezar Falls. He owned and operated his own automotive repair business in Brownfield for 30 plus years. Burton was very well-known for his mechanical abilities and his talent for custom steel fabrication. For many years, neighborhood residents looked forward to seeing Burt in his big tractor appear at their driveways to clean the snow away.

Burton was a 32nd Degree Mason, Kora Shrine of Lewiston, and Past Master of Mt. Moriah Lodge #56  A.M. & F.M. of Brownfield. In addition, Burt served his local community in such capacities as selectman, volunteer firefighter, and Historical Society Member.

Burton is survived by Carol, his wife of 60 years; their daughters, Nancy Brooks Hobbins and husband James Clifford Hobbins, Lois Brooks Neal and husband John Neal, and Gail Brooks; sister Sylvia Anne Brooks Babcock; and brother Conrad Stone Brooks; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and many, many nieces and nephews.

He was the son of the late Herbert Melville and Ruth Stone Brooks. He was predeceased by his brother James Herbert Brooks and sister Nancy Jean Brooks Heath; and grandchildren Heidi Brooke Todd and Sarah Elizabeth Barber.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Wood's Funeral Home, 9 Warren Street, Fryeburg, Maine. Funeral Services are Monday, March 10, at 3 p.m., at Brownfield Community Church. Reception provided by the Masons immediately following at Mount Moriah Lodge in Brownfield.
