Beverly R. Jensen

SOUTH CASCO — Beverly Rose Jensen, 81, of South Casco, died on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn.

She was born in South Portland, the daughter of Harold A. and Angie Oliver Smith. Bev attended Falmouth schools and was a 1948 graduate of Falmouth High School.

She worked for the former Casco Bottling Company in Portland. After raising her family, Bev worked for Cumberland County Civil Defense as a radio operator. She also worked at the Sebago Trading Post in North Windham, and later as a real estate broker for Doreen Warren. Bev was also employed by Fairchild in South Portland, the Manchester School in Windham as a noon aide and was called Granny by all of the children, Clarostat in Gorham and the Maine Correctional Center in South Windham as a switchboard operator for 21 years, retiring in 2009.

Bev has been a resident of South Casco since 1988. She had attended East Windham Community Church, where she also taught Sunday School; was a member of the East Windham Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary; and was a former member of The Deborah Hospital Foundation.

Her family as well as her home meant everything to Bev. She also enjoyed bowling, gardening, dancing, and playing cards. As a teenager, she sang on the stage with Ken MacKenzie.

She was predeceased by her brother, Lloyd H. Smith.

Surviving besides her husband of 56 years, Richard E. Jensen of South Casco, are two sons, Richard H. Graves of Mechanic Falls and Dana E. Jensen of Windham; three daughters, Karen L. Thompson of Naples, Lori A. Jensen and Lynne M. Jordan, both of South Casco; a brother, Richard Smith of Florida; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery, Windham.
