Barbara J. (Bowley) Wright

SACO — Barbara J. (Bowley) Wright, 79, of North Saco, died on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012 at Maine Medical Center. Born Oct. 28, 1933, the daughter of Philip and Alberta (Randall) Bowley, Barbara grew up in Scarborough.

She married Benjamin Wright, an airman stationed at Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth. Two years later she and their daughter boarded a ship to join Ben in the Philippines, where he had been transferred. For the next 20 years Barbara moved the family every two to three years to whatever new duty station Ben had been assigned to.

After Ben retired from the Air Force, the family returned to Maine, setting up housekeeping in North Saco. She worked at the Armed Forces Entrance and Examining Station in Portland, where she was the travel agent arranging transport for new recruits going to basic training. In 1970 she even shipped out her daughter who had joined the Air Force.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents, husband, a sister and a brother. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Wright of Old Orchard Beach; her granddaughter, Victoria Wilkosz and her husband Brendan of Newtington, Conn.; and her long-term companion, Donald Shackley of Bridgton; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco. Burial will be at a later date at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
