DANVILLE, Vt. — Austin “Gus” Enos, 78, of Danville, Vt. passed away at the Veterans Hospital in White River Junction early Friday morning, Sept. 24, 2010.

He was born in Cambridge, Mass. on Aug. 12, 1932. His father, Ermand M. Enos, died just before Gus was born; his mother, Elizabeth (Clarke) Enos, remarried James Callahan. In the extended Enos-Callahan family, he was predeceased by six brothers and sisters: Margaret (Enos) King, Phoebe Enos, Dicki Enos (KIA 1945), Molly (Enos) Hansen, James Callahan, and Jack Callahan.

Gus was a proud Korean War veteran, receiving an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Navy after four years of service. Gus moved to Danville in 1991 after retiring with 32 years of service as an electrical engineer for Northrop Corporation. While living in Norfolk, Mass., he served as a lieutenant and EMT on the Norfolk Fire Department from 1972 to 1987. He also was a member of the Danville Zoning Board, Danville Town Lister, the Knights of Pythias, VFW Post 793 and the American Legion. He truly loved his time reading with the first through third grade students at the Danville School, which he did for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara (Timmins) Enos of Danville, Vt.; four children, Stephen Enos of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Nancy Lawton of Foxboro, Mass., Patricia Sartelle of Danville, Vt. and Edward Enos of Denmark; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters: Julia Callahan Craig and Ellen Callahan Nelson, both of Arkansas; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010 at the Danville Congregational Church. The Rev. Robert Sargent and the Rev. Douglas Carter officiated the service. Committal services were held at the Vermont Veteran’s Cemetery in Randolph on Monday, Oct. 4.
