Anna D. (Cavallaro) Anania, 94

PORTLAND — Anna Dorothy (Cavallaro) Anania, 94, of Portland, passed peacefully with loving family members by her side on Friday, July 7, 2017.

Born in Portland on April 23, 1923, she was one of eight children, who were born to parents Dorothy Pompeo and Louis Cavallaro. She attended Portland schools, graduating from Portland High School. Anna then attended secretarial college and later worked for the Edwards and Walker Company.

In 1945, Anna married her childhood sweetheart, Joseph Anania with whom she raised three children, Donna, Joanne and Robert. Anna’s true job and one that she took great pride in was being a homemaker. She loved to cook for her family and host Sunday dinners for her extended family.

Anna attended St. Peter’s Catholic Church and was also a member of the Falmouth
Extension (Ladies Club). She enjoyed bringing her grandchildren to the Portland Elks Lodge to swim with her. Anna and her husband Joe loved traveling to many locations, such as the Bahamas and Venezuela. She loved arts and crafts of all kinds and especially hooking and braiding rugs. Her love for animals was well known, but above all, she treasured the time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Anna was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Carmine Anania; her parents; two brothers, both named Francis Cavallaro; and her sister, Louise Cavallaro Vashon.

She is survived by daughters Donna Lebel and Joanne Anania, both of Portland; her son, Robert of Westbrook; sisters Laura Cavallaro Caminiti, Caroline Greenlaw, both of Portland, and Frances Porter of Raymond; brother Louis Cavallaro of South Portland; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11 a.m. at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland. To share a memory or condolence, please visit www.athutchins.com
