Alice Trattner, 78

RICHMOND, VA — Alice Trattner, 78, a longtime summer resident of Bridgton, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 in Richmond, Va.

She was the daughter of the late Sydney Trattner and Leah Binswanger Trattner of Richmond, who were themselves summer residents at the family house on Highland Lake beginning in 1943.

In addition to a bachelor’s degree from Mt. Holyoke College, Alice earned a master of behavioral science degree at the University of Connecticut. She was a research scientist in behavioral genetics and closely related fields at the University of Connecticut for 30 years, contributing to a number of scientific journals. Earlier, she did similar work for several years at the Jackson Memorial Laboratory in Bar Harbor.

In addition to a keen personal interest in dogs, she was a skilled and devoted gardener, both at home and during many summers in Bridgton.

She is survived by a brother, John H. Trattner of Chevy Chase, Md.
