Player of Week: Neva Leavitt

Neva Leavitt

Neva Leavitt is a player that can impact a soccer game from any spot on the field.

A junior, Neva has been a three-year starter on the varsity squad and has always played a very important role in the team’s successes. This year has been especially significant because of her goal-scoring run that she is on. Neva scored a goal against Poland in the first meeting, three goals against Greely, four goals against Fryeburg, and three more goals in the Lakers’ second meeting with Poland (a convincing 7-0 victory).

“She has the ability to play almost any position on the field and will do whatever is asked of her. Neva is actually a very good defender and has played a lot of full back in the past. She has a quiet, shy demeanor but she is a ferocious defender, especially in the role of a forward defending against the opposing teams back line for she goes in hard to win the ball back,” Lake Region varsity girls’ soccer coach Peter Webb said. “This year, I’ve asked Neva to play a center-forward position and the goal scoring output came. She has the speed and agility to get by defenders and can finish. It’s nice as a coach to see her start combining with our other players, which just makes us an overall better team.”

In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Neva is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed T-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.
