Laker runner fares well at New England track championships

Sam Laverdiere

Lake Region junior Sam Laverdiere had two solid performances at the New England Indoor Track & Field Championships held on Saturday at Roxbury College’s Reggie Lewis Center.

Sam finished 13th in the mile run with a time of 4:29.89. Maddox Jordan of Noble (North Berwick, Maine) won the mile with a time of 4:15.45. Sam was the second Maine finisher and fifth underclassman in that event.

Sam placed 17th in the two-mile run with a time of 9:55.15. The two-mile run was won by Matthew Giardina of Bishop Guertin (Nashua, N.H.) with a time of 9:12.49. Sam was the second Maine finisher and the ninth underclassman in the two-mile event.

Each state sends six competitors for each event so Sam’s places are very respectable for the New England region, outstanding for Maine, and a testament of his great fitness and dedication, Lake Region Coach Mark Snow said. Sam ends the season with Maine ranks of #4 in the mile, #2 in the two-mile, and #1 in the 5K.

“Great job, Sam!” Coach Snow added.
