Karley Nichols brings enthusiasm, hard work and dedication to the Lake Region Alpine Ski team.

“She is constantly cheering on her teammates. In her first year racing, she has performed very well,” Lake Region Alpine Ski Coach Charlie O’Brien said.

In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Karley is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed T-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Why did you choose to alpine ski race? I have been with Pleasant Mountain ski program ever since I was eligible and always loved doing the mini races at the end of the year.

What is the most difficult part of racing? The most difficult part of this sport is trying to get a good time and not falling during the process of making it through the course.

What do you enjoy the most about the sport? I enjoy going against other racers and trying to beat their time.

What do you feel you need to work on? I always will need to work on my form.

Why is teamwork important? I encourage my team to try their hardest.

What is the biggest impact your coach(es) have had on you? My coach has forced me to try again when practice gets tough.

How do you want people to view you as an athlete? I want people to view me as a good role model on and off the slopes.

Ten years from now, when you look back on your high school sports career, what do you think you will remember most? I think I will remember the close connections I’ve formed with my teammates.
