October Rotary Good Citizen: Joey Austin

Joey Austin

Joey Austin of Casco has been selected as the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club’s “Citizen of the Month” for October.

Each month, the Rotary Club recognizes a Lake Region High School student who displays good citizenship and contributes to the school community. The recipient is honored at a Rotary breakfast meeting and is presented a savings bond.

Community activities: Pack the Pick-up, CiderFest 2011-2012, Invite-A-Guest Dinner, Mason’s Dinner, Student Representative on SAD 61 School Board.

Hobbies: Spend time with family and friends, playing football, video games.

Future plans: I’m attending the New England Institute of Art.

What is your favorite class? JA. My favorite class is Physics because I know learning about the things that disprove common knowledge.

What is your toughest class? JA. My toughest class is Algebra because I struggle with keeping up with all the functions and equations.

How do you balance your class work and your extracurricular activities? JA. I try to do most of my work during my free time and school to allow room for my extracurriculars.  

What is the biggest challenge high school students face today? JA. The biggest problem high schooler’s face is that they can’t or don’t feel they should pay attention to things they don’t feel are important.

Who has inspired you educationally? JA. The one person who has inspired my education is my Culinary Arts teacher, Mr. Botka. His more “aggressive” way to instill me to want to and to do better in all areas in my education.
