Masons’ LRVC Student of the Month — Helena Landry

Helena Landry

Helena Landry, a senior from Fryeburg, has been selected as the Masons’ December Student of the Month from Lake Region Vocational Center.

Parents: Dennis and Carrie Landry

Sibling: Corissa Landry

Hobbies: I enjoy cooking, snowboarding, music, hanging out with friends, and being outside

What program are you in at the Vocational Center? I am in the Culinary Arts II program.

What do you like most about your program? I like the relationships you build with your classmates, cooking (obviously), and learning something new every day but not getting bored.

What are your plans after graduation? I plan to attend the culinary program at SMCC (Southern Maine Community College), and then attend another school afterward to earn a higher degree.

What career goal(s) do you have? I would like to open a small, super fancy, modern art restaurant.

Who or what inspired you to pursue this path? I was originally tied between cosmetology and culinary, but after working/living at the Newagen Seaside Inn, I realized that culinary was what I wanted to pursue. Working side-by-side with the sous chef, Justin, and processing with my friend Berkay, they helped me see this.

What advice would you like to give future students? Be there for everyone by giving them support to push them forward and be a rock for them to pick them up when they fall. Let yourself learn — school can be fun. Care about yourself, as it’s easy to never do for yourself.
