Q. What do you like most about school, why? My favorite part of LRHS is large amount of diversity. Every student has a different identity, background and past. No matter where you’re from or what your past is there is a place for you at LRHS, with people who will drop anything to help one another.

Q. What is your biggest challenge in school? The biggest challenge I face in school is stress. As a high school student, I have found that my life is like a balancing act. We have to meet deadlines, parents’ expectations, college expectations and so much more. With all that, we are also expected to balance a social life while getting enough sleep. I have found this balancing act impossible. However, over the course of four years I have learned a few ways to make it easier. #1: Time management, #2: Effort, #3: Be present.

Q. What is your favorite subject, and why? My favorite subject is math because it pushes me to challenge myself on a day-to-day basis. Math is definitely my hardest class and easily my biggest weakness. However, through my struggle to understand, I learned lessons that expanded way beyond the math world. I learned that pen is not your friend. I learned that not knowing the answer is okay, but it’s not okay to not try. And most of all, I learned that you will never grow as a person unless you do something beyond what you have mastered.

Q. If you could change one thing about school, what would it be (and why)? If I could change one thing about the school I would make the start time later. I know from experience that lack of sleep can bedetrimental to your health and to your ability to learn. Statistically speaking, teenagers need nine hours of sleep to function at their best and are not fully alert and awake until 10 a.m. Although it would be more cost efficient to keep start times the way they are, it would improve students’ productivity and overall grades.

Q. What characteristics do you believe a good teacher should possess? A good teacher should be understanding, kind, have good communication skills and have the ability to adapt to different learning styles easily.

Q. What goals did you hope to achieve during your high school days? I hope to achieve better leadership skills, step out of my comfort zone on a day-to-day basis and make as many friends as I can.

Q. What do you hope to do in the future in terms of career, and why are you headed in that direction? I hope to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in the fall and major in criminology. Ichose this path for multiple reasons. For one, UNL has one of the best criminology programs in the United States. Another reason is that Nebraska is where I was born and where my family lives. I will forever think of it as home.

Q. What do you think it will take to be successful in the future? To have a successful future you need set goals for yourself, and have passion, compassion, good work ethic, communication skills and most of all stay positive.

Q. What lesson have you learned while at Lake Region High School that will help you in the future? One thing I have learned from LRHS that will help me in my future is to try new things. Freshman year, we were told to take any and every opportunity to get involved in our school and community. Throughout my four years here, I have been a part of tons of clubs, organizations and athletic teams, all of which helped me step out of my comfort zone, grow as a person, and meet new people. I promise you will neverregret trying something new, but you might regret not trying it.
