Izabell Apovian of Bridgton has been selected as the area Lions Clubs’ “Student of the Month” for December.

Each month, area Lions Clubs recognize a Lake Region High School senior based on academics and volunteerism in school and community services. The recipient is honored at a Lions’ dinner meeting and is presented a monetary award.

Parents: James Apovian and Kristin Davis

Activities: Some of the activities I take part in are the Track and Field team at the high school, and working as a hostess for Black Horse Tavern. I also love paddleboarding in the summer and going to the gym in the morning before school

Hobbies: Some hobbies I have loved over the years are painting with my mom, reading, making blankets and skiing! I also partake in many clubs at my school like, the Interact Club, National Honor Society, and Book Club

Future plans: My future plans as of right now are to go to UNH to pursue a major in Neuroscience, ultimately my goal is to work/help patients with dementia or other brain-related conditions. Later in life, I would love to find myself in a writing career, as well as becoming a bodybuilder or wellness competitor.

Q. What do you believe are three keys to being a good student? I believe one of the most important keys to being a good student is good time management. It’s important to put school work first a lot of the time but also giving yourself time to relax, hangout with friends, and enjoy hobbies/activities. Another key would be finding good study techniques that work for you. Everyone is different, so it’s important to find ways that will make the most sense to you. Lastly, and this may seem obvious but listen to your teacher and get work done right when it’s assigned. It’s a simple idea, but it’s very important.

Q. What is your favorite class and why? My favorite classes can be found within any science or English course. I have personally fallen in love with science due to the ability of being very hands-on as well as the depth you can reach within your understanding. I also love any English class due to my love of reading and writing.

Q. Who is your favorite teacher and why? One teacher who stands out to me is Thomas Coady. Mr. Coady is a high school math teacher, and I can confidently say that he is one of the most incredible teachers I have ever had the privilege of being taught by. My classes with Mr. Coady have been challenging, especially since math is not my strongest subject. However, Mr. Coady never gave up on me. He always went the extra mile to ensure that I understood concepts and was able to keep up with the class. He was always available to answer my questions and provide additional support when needed.

Mr. Coady genuinely cares about our success and well-being. He creates a positive and supportive learning environment that makes us want to do better for him. His passion for teaching is evident in the way he interacts with us and the effort he puts into his lessons.

Q. If you could change on thing about your educational experience, what would it be and why? One thing I wish I could change about my educational experience was the lack of Honors classes we had. A lot of the time, I was in classes where people really didn’t care about the teachers or the material that they tried to give us. The lack of Honors classes definitely made it hard for me to stay productive and concentrated within my classes.

Q. What accomplishment are you most proud of, and why? The accomplishment I’m honestly most proud of is how far I have come as a person through my years at the high school. Looking back, I can see through all the hardships I went through I triumphed through it all and really pushed myself to excel.
