Head of School Joseph Manning

Fryeburg Academy will hold an official Installation Ceremony for Joseph R. Manning, the 55th Head of School, this Friday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. in the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center. The public is invited to attend this special event.

Manning joined the Fryeburg Academy community in 2003 as a dorm parent in Payson-Mulford Hall with his wife Maria, a chemistry teacher at the Academy. He has served in a variety of roles at the Academy including dorm master, teacher, Associate Director of Admission, Academic Dean, Assistant Head of School for Academics and currently as Assistant Head of School.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Biology from The George Washington University, Manning completed his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Maine.

He assumed the role of Head of School in July 2023, succeeding Erin Mayo. He’s been a key developer and champion of experiential learning initiatives at the Academy.

Joe, his wife Maria, and their four children — Solana, Leif, Zaya and Arya — reside in the Fessenden House on campus.
