Denmark voters to decide recalls this Tuesday

DENMARK — Denmark voters will vote by secret ballot next Tuesday, June 30, on whether to recall two of the members of the Denmark Board of Selectmen.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Denmark Municipal Building to vote on the recall of Selectmen Beverly Caparco and Richard Mason Jr. Selectman Rick Snow, who was elected to a three-year term on June 4, said there was some confusion among residents about the voting process, and he wanted to make sure residents knew the voting would take place via a secret ballot election and not a special town meeting.

The June 30 vote was triggered by a citizens’ petition from some residents who are upset over the way the board has handled concerns voiced about Town Manager Dan Merhalski. The dispute dates back to last October, and culminated in the recall petition after selectmen declined to act on a separate petition calling for Merhalski’s termination.

Merhalski subsequently announced his resignation, effective July 30.
