NAPLES — Running shoulder-to-shoulder past Rick’s Café, Pete Bottomley and Ryan Kennedy were set up for a fantastic finish.

Bottomley gained the upper hand as the runners climbed the final hill prior to the finish line of the Naples Causeway 5K Saturday. At 55 years old, Bottomley bested the 28-year-old from Fayetteville, Ga. by four seconds — 17:44 to 17:48.

Amanda Pope, 31, of Naples posted the fastest time for females at 18:50, which was good for fifth overall in the field of 231.

Proceeds from the race, organized by Georege Vooris, benefits the Dempsey Center, as well as a local food pantry.
