WINDHAM — Richard E. “Dick” Larrivee, 70, of Windham, died on Friday, March 11, 2011, at his home after a long illness.

He was born in Westbrook, the son of Robert E. and Simone M. Francouer Larrivee. He attended St. Hyacinth’s parochial school and later Windham schools.

Dick was employed for 24 years at Northern Utilities Gas Company as a mechanic, retiring in 1984 due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He devoted himself full-time to a lifelong passion for repairing, selling and restoring antique tractors. This lead to joining the Maine Antique Tractor Club (MATC) where he went to many club-sponsored tractor pulling events around the state. He also served on the club’s board of directors.

For many years, along with his wife, he and other volunteers organized the annual “SummerFest” held in June at the Farmington Fairgrounds, where members would showcase their tractors and various other farming related exhibits. Tractor pulling would be the main attraction with several weight classes and good-natured competition amongst the members.

In the fall, “Plow Days” was another event that was held at the Rust Farm in Gorham, where fields were harrowed for the next season’s corn crop. This was the highlight for a monthly meeting complete with a pig roast.

He also worked for Warren S. Elder and Sons doing occasional excavating jobs.

Dick volunteered as a member of the Windham Board of Zoning Appeals for several years. During the 1970s, he was very active in Boy Scouts and coaching farm league baseball teams.

He married Martha A. White Larrivee on Nov. 26, 1960, in Westbrook.

Surviving, besides his wife of 50 years, are his daughter, Christine V. Larrivee of Gorham; his son, David L. Larrivee of Windham; two grandsons; two sisters, Doris Tanguay of Westbrook and Pauline Fecteau of Raymond; a brother, Onile Larrivee of Windham; and several nieces and nephews.
