Player of the Week, Shelby-Lynne Sheldrick

Shelby-Lynne Sheldrick

“Shelby-Lynne has been a tremendous leader for us. She works hard at her game, in practices, as well as on her own time. She is a legitimate scorer and deserves to be recognized in her role as a senior leader!” Lake Region varsity girls’ basketball Head Coach Paul True said. “It is my pleasure to recognize Shelby as our Player of the Week.”

In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Shelby-Lynne Sheldrick is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Sports you play: Basketball, Soccer

Why did you choose basketball? I chose this sport because at the time all my friends were playing and everyone wanted me to join, little did I know I would learn to love the game.

What do you enjoy most about this sport?I enjoy how competitive it is, and how close I am with my teammates and coaches.

How has competing in sports changed you as a person? Sports have made me become a leader on and off the court/field.

During this period of Covid-19, what has been the most difficult adjustment? Definitely having to wear masks, it makes not only breathing during basketball hard but also it makes learning hard.

What is one of your most memorable sports moments? How we always support each other on any team I am a part of.

What is your most disappointing sports memory? When we lost to Poland on our opening night of the season.

How has sports prepared you for your future? Leadership skills, and knowing when and how to take charge of a situation.

Name a coach who has made a difference in your life and in what way? Jeff Hall, he was not only a wonderful coach but he was very dedicated to me as a player. One year, he wanted me to play basketball so bad that every single Tuesday he drove from Casco to Sebago to pick me up from school to get me back to practice in Casco. I wouldn’t be the player I am today without Jeff.

What are your future goals? I plan to attend college for Nursing or Dental Hygiene. I also plan to play basketball wherever I decide to attend.

Ten years from now, when you look back on your high school sports career, what do you think you will remember most? I think the thing I will remember most is the amount of wonderful, supportive teammates I had.
