Cheerleading came naturally to Kassandra Girard.

“From the beginning, when she joined cheering as a freshman, I have been amazed at how naturally this sport came to her. She was instantly dedicated, extremely talented, and pushed herself to improve in some way at every, single practice,” Lake Region varsity cheering coach Ashleigh London said. “I am very proud to have been able to coach her for all her four years and it’s going to be hard to say goodbye to such a dedicated athlete at the end of this season.”

When she was out this past fall season with an illness, Coach London knew how difficult it was for Kassandra to not be able to participate.

“She expects a lot of herself and I can honestly say that she gave me 100% every day,” the coach said. “As a freshman, she was very scared to start flying and the second she tried it, I knew that was going to be her main position within the sport. She puts complete trust in her bases and perfected stunting skills that this school has never seen before.”

Kassandra played a huge role in the successes of the Laker squad this season and “that’s something she can take with her as she completes her high school career,” Coach London said.

“My co-coach, Samantha Scarf, and I want to thank Kassandra for all the hard work she’s put in and we want to congratulate her on everything she’s accomplished,” Coach London added. “You’re going to be missed!”

In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Kassandra is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.
