Senior co-captain Ashley Pelletier has been a consistent leader and competitor throughout her high school alpine ski race career and this year is no different, Lake Region Coach Kurt Berger said.

“She is a role model of academics, character, teamwork and sportsmanship consistently leading the top spot for the Lady Lakers,” Coach Berger said. “We look forward to her performances at this year’s Western Maine Conference and State Meets.”

In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Ashley is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

What do you find most challenging about the sport? The most challenging part of ski racing would be the mental aspect. It is a very individual sport therefore it’s also very difficult mentally.

What goal did you set for yourself this season, and what will it take to reach that goal? My goal for this season was to enjoy it as much as I can, ski my best and hopefully make the state team at the end of the season.

What is your favorite sports memory and/or achievement (explain why)? My favorite achievement has to be when I made the All-State team for field hockey this year. I played well all season and this was a great way to end it.

How has sports made you a better person? Sports have taught me how to be a good leader, teammate, and friend. I have learned how to be encouraging with teammates while also helping them to be their best, and me my best, at the same time.

Name a teammate or coach you admire and explain why? My club field hockey coach Sam at Maine Styx has shown me a new perspective on the game of field hockey and has helped me love the sport even more. Every practice and game, he gets me to be the best I can be, he is very encouraging and positive but also is a tough coach when he needs to be.
