New Raiders softball coach named

Fryeburg Academy has named Stephen Woodcock as its new varsity softball head coach. He succeeds Fred Apt, who retired last season.

Coach Woodcock brings a wealth of experience to the position including 12 years as the head coach at Endicott College along with 20 years coaching various levels along the way, according to Fryeburg Academy Athletic Director Sue Thurston.

Woodcock has coached junior varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball, as well as having been a softball umpire and basketball official for over 22 years each.

In addition, Coach Woodcock has been a recreation director, principal and vice principal in Maine, Mass., and most recently in North Conway, N.H.

He is a graduate of Boston State College and received his master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Eastern Kentucky University and Educational Leadership Certification from Fitchburg State College.

There were two applicants for the position, Thurston said.
