Biker, walker safety promoted at Casco Days parade

CASCO — An excellent way to promote a concept or launch a campaign is to take it where the crowds are.

That is exactly what the Vision Zero Ad Hoc Committee plans to do.

“They are utilizing the Casco Days parade to educate the public about pedestrian and bicycle safety,” Casco Town Manager Anthony “Tony” Ward said.

“They also plan on distributing a survey to determine the populace’s perception relating to pedestrian and bicycle safety in Casco,” he said.

The committee was created after the town received a resiliency grant from the State of Maine. The emphasis is Vision Zero — an objective of making changes that result in zero injuries or fatalities from vehicles hitting people walking or bicycling.

The Casco Days grand parade takes place this Saturday, starting at 2 p.m. The parade route is along Meadow Road, also known as Route 121.
