Donna D. Pitts, 78

PORTLAND — Donna Dodge Pitts, 78, of Portland, Maine, formerly of Bridgton, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at her home surrounded by her children.
She was the wife of the late Russell Pitts and celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Born in Bridgton, she was the youngest daughter of the late Richard and Annie (Burns) Dodge. She was a graduate of Bridgton High School and met her future husband shortly thereafter.
Donna married Russell Pitts and they moved to Hebron, Conn.
She was employed as an information systems analyst at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Conn., before retiring after 30 years. During this time, she earned a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Connecticut State University with the highest distinction summa cum laude. Donna was always up for trying new activities such as learning how to ride a motorcycle to obtaining her ham radio license. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved back to Maine, settling in the Bridgton area.
Donna’s hobbies included: genealogy; crocheting; birdwatching; feeding the wildlife in her backyard; going for long walks; caring for her beloved dog Millie; watching UCONN women’s basketball and of recent, Kansas City Chiefs football; winning board games against her grandchildren; enjoying her gardens and maintaining her lovely home in Portland. Donna was quite independent in her later years and had a very sharp mind, keeping up on the latest world events. She was a lifelong learner that enjoyed spirited discussions about politics, taxes or regarding some new electronic gadget. She will always be remembered by her childrenas being a loving mother that always put her children rst.
Donna is survived by her children, Charles Pitts and his wife Bonnie of Tolland, Conn., Joseph Pitts and his wife Jeanne of Clive, Iowa, and Karen Pitts and her wife Christine Gilman of Bar Harbor; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and is also survived by her sisters Mary Bigelow of Raymond and Barbara York of Casco.
She was also the sister of the late Paul and Charles Dodge.
Interment is planned for late spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland. Due to oral restrictions at the cemetery, donations in Donna’s memory may be sent to Northern Light Home Care & Hospice, 50 Foden Road, South Portland, ME 04106
