NORWAY — Dorothy “Dolly” M. MacDonald, 89, of North Waterford, formerly of Arlington, Mass., passed away on Monday, Sept. 4, 2017 at Stephens Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Dorothy was born on Jan. 27, 1928 in Boston to Albert and Hazel O’Neil Allen. She married Robert MacDonald in 1950 and lived in Arlington, Mass. until they moved the family to Maine in 1966. She was employed for several years at Raytheon before becoming a homemaker.

Dolly was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family, knitting, and cooking for friends and family. Some of her best memories were at her family’s farm in Bellisle Creek, Canada. She will be remembered fondly for her good-hearted nature, lively sense of humor and her fierce independence.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Allen of Waterford; sons Charles of North Waterford and William of Lovell; her stepdaughter, Helen O’Quinn of Alachua, Fla.; stepson, Robert MacDonald of Effingham, N.H.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert Allen; a sister, Merle McAllister; and many nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; sisters Evelyn McAuliffe, Ruth Swett, Irene Trimback and Margaret McAllister.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Five Kezars Road, North Waterford.
