WEST BALDWIN — Lena Petersen, 98, of West Baldwin died on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015 at Fryeburg Health Care Center after a short illness.

She was born in New Brunswick, Canada, on March 16, 1917 a daughter of Louis and Agnes (Albert) Landry. She grew up in Westbrook, where she met and married Carl Petersen. They moved to Gorham, where she enjoyed living and raising her family.

Lena loved nature, people and life. She loved traveling and reading the paper daily, doing crossword puzzles and playing card games. She had a great sense of humor and believed everyone else should too! She was a very happy person whose favorite saying was “God bless you.”

Lena was predeceased by her husband, Carl Petersen; her oldest daughter, Sharon St.Pierre; her sister, Nellie McGarry; brothers, Onesime (Zim) Landry, Amedee Landry, Edward Landry and Lawrence Landry; and a great-grandson.

She is survived by her son, Carl Petersen Jr. of Kentucky; her daughter, Janice Petersen of West Baldwin; her youngest sister, Edna Allen; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

An hour of visitation will be on Monday, Dec. 28, from 1 to 2 p.m. immediately followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish. A gathering will follow at her daughter Janice’s home at 58 Depot Road in West Baldwin. Burial will be in Gorham in the spring.
