WINDHAM — Donald C. Foss Sr., 71, of Windham, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015 after a brief illness.

Don was born on July 19, 1943 in Portland, the son of John Foss Jr. and Dorothy (Queen) Carpenter. Don attended Portland schools and joined the United States Army in 1962, where he spent most of his time stationed in Germany.

Following his discharge from the Army, Don worked for the Portland Company and the Crosby Group — Laughlin Plant, which were both medium to heavy steel fabricator foundries in Portland. Don also worked at Shaw’s Supermarkets until his retirement.

Don loved the game of baseball and coached for many years, including Little League teams from Sampson’s Market in Portland and Casco Little League. Don also enjoyed old-fashioned tent camping with his family, often staying at the Sebago Lake State Park. He was an avid candlepin bowler in the 1980s, competing out of Beacon Lanes in Raymond. In his later years, Don enjoyed participating in all activities at the Unity Gardens senior housing complex, including bingo, movie night, and playing “oldies” music during social events.

Don was predeceased by his mother, father, and sister, Jodi St. George of Gleason, Tenn.

Don is survived by his son, Donald Jr. of Raymond; his daughter, Tricia Foss of Brunswick; sisters Donna Garcia of Sebastian, Fla. and Mary Follensbee of Standish; two grandchildren of Raymond; one niece, two nephews, two great-nephews and two great-nieces.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 from noon to 2 p.m. in the community room at the Unity Gardens Senior housing complex, located at 124 Tandberg Trail in Windham.
