Clement named ‘Miss Basketball’; local hoopsters named all-conference

BANGOR — Allie Clement of Catherine McAuley High School in Portland was selected Miss Maine Basketball.

Lake Region’s Tiana-Jo Carter and Parise Rossignol of Van Buren (who scored 13 points in the Class C/D East win over the West, 73-68) were also finalist for the statewide honor.

Clement and Carter teamed up Saturday to lead the A/B West Senior All-Star Team past the A/B East All-Star Team 83-44 at the Maine McDonald’s® High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games held at Husson University in Bangor.

Clement led the way for the West with 21 points, while Carter added 16 points. Leading the East scoring was Anna MacKenzie of Nokomis High School with 10 points followed by Hannah Shaw of Mount Desert Island High School with 7 points.

Clement also won the Girls’ 3-Point Shoot-Out hitting 10 shots. Kory Norcross of Edward Little H.S. and Morgan Thompson of Schenck H.S. tied for second place each sinking nine 3-pointers.

In four years at McAuley, Clement won 85 of 88 games, including 56 in a row. She capped that near-perfect career with a perfect 16-0 tournament record and four Class A state championships. Clement was the Western A tournament’s most outstanding player as a junior and senior and named 2013 Maine Gatorade Player of the Year.

This season, the 5-foot-8 guard captured her second consecutive conference scoring title and was named the SMAA Player of the Year after averaging 18.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. She was a three-time SMAA All-Star while tallying 1,374 career points.

She is the daughter of Brian (a Lake Region graduate and a member of the Lake Region Hall of Fame) and Carolyn Clement. Allie has accepted a basketball scholarship from Marist College.
