Wayne T. Harmon

SCARBOROUGH — Wayne T. Harmon, 74, passed away Dec. 20, 2010 surrounded by his family at Mass General Hospital from complications following cancer surgery.
He was born on Oct. 24, 1936 in Lovell, the son of Leon and Marge Harmon. He attended Fryeburg Academy and graduated from Kent’s Hill High School in 1956. He then served in the United States Marine Corp. He married Meredith Bennett on Sept. 12, 1959.
Wayne went to work in sales for L.C. Andrew Building Supply in Windham in 1960. He quickly advanced to managing the Farmington division and became vice president. In 1980, he joined Nelson and Small Wholesale Distribution as vice president as well as manager of the Recreational Division distributing boats, trailers and snowmobiles.
In 1990, Wayne and Meredith moved to Naples, Fla. where he returned to the building supply business.   Wayne retired in 1999 to enjoy his family and other hobbies such as landscaping, woodworking and reading.
He was predeceased by his youngest son, Doug Harmon in May of 2007.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 51 years, Meredith; their oldest son Greg; his six grandchildren.
Visiting hours were held on Monday, Dec. 27 at the Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home, located at the corner of Routes 202 and 4A (13 Portland Road) in Buxton (Bar Mills). A funeral service was held on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring at Number 4 Cemetery in Lovell.
Wayne fought the battle against different types of cancer for 40 years. Family believes he would like to be remembered by helping a 20-month-old child, Bryson (the grandson of Meredith’s cousin) who has Ewing Sarcoma (bone cancer).
