Wayne McAllister

LEWISTON — Wayne A. McAllister Sr., 78, of Chatham, died Tuesday afternoon, April 23, 2019, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

He was born on March 13, 1941, in North Conway, N.H., a son of Orman and Frances (Shaw) McAllister Sr. He attended Lovell schools and went on to graduate from Fryeburg Academy in 1959.

On Sept. 5, 1965, he married Norma Layne in Center Chatham, N.H. They made their home in Chatham as Wayne took over his in-laws’ dairy farm in 1969, which he ran until 2002.

Wayne served his Chatham community faithfully in many capacities over the years including as town constable for 40 years, selectman from 1985 until 2015, and deputy fire warden for 35-plus years. He was an ardent supporter of youth sports, especially baseball. He coached countless kids over the years, particularly in Little League, and founded the Pequawket Valley Bambino league in 1986. He was a fan of the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and NASCAR. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing and watching old westerns. 

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia “Tricia” Lee Pitman; his son, Wayne “Gump” Andrew McAllister Jr.; a grandson; and his brother, Orman McAllister Jr., all of Chatham.

He was predeceased by his wife, Norma Jean McAllister in 2001; his daughter, Karen Lynn McAllister in 2005; and his brother, Robert McAllister.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, at the Center Chatham Cemetery.
