BRIDGTON/FRYEBURG — Wardner Gilroy, 88, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris, where he had lived since his wife, Frederika Gilroy, passed away on March 24 of this year.

Their son, Foster Gilroy, predeceased both of his parents.

The Long Island, N.Y., native completed his education by earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Hofstra University. He did his graduate work in biology, oceanography and advanced bacteriology at the Long Island University. His entire career was spent working as a chemist for Sperry Rand. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, Wardner was involved in work classified as top secret.

Wardner’s intellectual curiosity and his enjoyment of opera and traveling were a joy shared by his late wife, Frederika.

A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church on Route 93 in Bridgton.
