PORTLAND — Walter Robert Weitzell III, 54, of Portland died on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. 

He was the husband of Jacqueline M. (Cummings) Weitzell.

He was born in Brunswick on Dec. 15, 1959, a son of the late Walter R. Weitzell II and Alice S. (Field) Weitzell. He attended Jack Junior High School in Portland. Walter spent most of his life as an automotive mechanic and restorator.

Walter was a big NASCAR fan and especially enjoyed watching Jimmy Johnson. He also enjoyed cooking, and being in the comfort of his own home. Walter loved to sing and being with his family and friends.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Laura Lynn Kelley of Bowdoinham, Walter R. Weitzell IIII of Florida, April Dawn Weitzell of Westbrook and Robert Jonathan Weitzell also of Westbrook; two stepsons, Timothy Porter of Westbrook and Michael Porter of Chicago, Ill.; his nine grandchildren; his sisters, Jeanette Plowman of Gorham, Carlene Velazquez of Buxton, Susan Larrivee of South Portland, Amanda Cummings of Saco and Wilita Dang of Biddeford; and three brothers, James Weitzell of Lyman, Frank Peavey and Thomas Peavey of West Baldwin; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Wilde Memorial Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Avenue, Portland. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery, Pownal.
