Viola E. Hilton, 90

CASCO — Viola Everett Hilton, 90, wife of the late Avon Douglas Hilton, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014.

She was the daughter of the late Vernon Everett Sr. and Helen Sherry Everett. She was born at home in Portland on Nov. 10, 1923.

She attended Portland public schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1942. She married Avon Douglas Hilton in 1943. She was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph Company as a telephone operator. She moved to West Falmouth in June, 1942 and was a member of the West Falmouth Grange and served two years on the Rationing Board in Yarmouth. She and her husband moved to Raymond, and served on the planning board there.

She was an avid golfer and member of the Riverside Golf Club. She was a low-handicap contender in the Women’s Maine State Golf Association. During winters, she assisted her husband conducting ski classes as active members of the Ski Instructors Association of Maine.

Her retirement years were spent at Oceanview in Falmouth and at Birchwoods at Canco in Portland. Her husband died while they lived at Oceanview.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 at the Raymond Village Cemetery on Mill Street in Raymond. Arrangements are by Hall Funeral Home, Casco.
