Timothy Flaherty Sr.

WESTBROOK — Timothy P. Flaherty Sr., 54, of Westbrook, passed away on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, after a brief illness.

Born on Jan. 11, 1959, as the sixth of 10 children in an Irish Catholic family, Tim was the son of Thomas C. Flaherty Sr. and Marilyn Brown Flaherty. Tim grew up in Portland, attended Saint Patrick’s School and was a 1978 graduate of Deering High School.

Tim married Jackie Gagnon on Oct. 6, 1990.

Tim was employed for several years in the family business, Tom & Jerry’s Car Wash, and spent much of his adult life as a self-styled entrepreneur. Accordingly, he enjoyed telling stories and always dreamt big. He always imagined that someday he would make a great boat captain.

Enthusiastically proud of his heritage, Tim had a great love for all things Irish.

Tim loved snow skiing, boating on Sebago Lake, ice fishing with his son and always relished his returns to Higgins Beach, where he spent much of his childhood. Tim also had a fondness for dogs. Other than Jackie and Tim Jr., his dogs Max and Patty were the loves of his life.

Tim was predeceased by his parents, Thomas C. Flaherty Sr. and Marilyn Brown Flaherty; and a third brother, Shon, died as an infant.

He is survived by his wife; his son, Timothy Jr., 18, of Westbrook; two brothers, James of Portland and Thomas Jr. of Westbrook; six sisters, Linda Atkinson of Portland, Judith Rogers of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Paula Nichols of Perry, Katherine Stovall of Scarborough, Elizabeth Flaherty of Naples and Kristin Billings of Thornton, Colo.; his godmother, Ginny Barra of Millis, Mass.; as well as many nieces, nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private. Please visit www.lindquistfuneralhome.com to view a video collage of Tim’s life and to share your condolences, memories and tributes with his family.
